My Name is Grant Thomson I decided to put this blog together to help as many people as possible ‘Sack their BOSS’. I was born in 1966 in Edinburgh, Scotland. It would be fair to say that I did not achieve my full potential at school.
On leaving school I couldn’t see a future in education for myself so I decided to join the Royal Marine Commandos.
I suppose this was a sort of challenge to myself to see if I could ‘make it’. Eight months later I passed out with my Green Beret. That was the start of 6 fantastic years. During this time I operated in various roles, including Mountain and Arctic warefare specialist, Anti Terrorism and as a Military Ski instructor.
The Military had given me the bug to travel so when I left I headed off for 2 Months to work on a Kibbutz in Israel. This started a worldwide adventure from which I returned home 2 1/2 years later. During this time I traveled in India, Egypt, Australia, Thailand and Nepal. I picked up odd jobs to pay the bills and for the next flight ticket!I thought that backpacking would get my restlessness out of my system. However, when I returned to Scotland I found myself wanting to travel even more. I suppose it made me realise how small the world really is and the possibilities open to people who want to experience other cultures.
Being away had also made me realise that I needed to get an education and luckilly I was accepted for Moray House. This was the Scottish center for Leisure Studies and Physical Education. Graduated with a degree in Leisure Management and started working in Fitness clubs.
Meeting my wife was just like an episode straight from Baywatch – well, not exactly!!
I was working in a swimming pool one evening and in she walked and our eyes met. Julie and I decided to get married in Steamboat Springs in Colorado. We now have two wonderfull children, Orla and Leo. It is very scary but Orla is Julies double and Leo is my double. I have to keep telling Leo not to worry too much, because he will grow out of it!!
The next couple of years saw me progress from Leisure attendant to running some of the biggest health clubs in the UK. It was around this time that I began to become disilloushened with my job prospects. I began to see that if I kept doing what I was doing I would never be in position to provide the kind of life that I wanted for us.
A friend introduced me to the field of personal development.
The first books I read were by Jack Black and Anthony Robbins. This really opened up a new world of possibility. I moved into sales as I saw this as a way to increase my earning potential. For a couple of years I had a great time selling within the fitness industry and also computer industry.
I worked hard and achieved a great salary. I remember at the end of some months not even knowing what to do with all my money! I had an Audi TT, nice house and lovely family. In fact, on the outside I may have looked to be successfull.
However, there was a problem, although I looked happy on the outside I was actually deeply dissatisfied. My work meant that I was way from home a lot and that I missed a lot of time with my family. I knew that memories are very important and I wanted desperately to be at home more to share these special times with them. This is when I was introduced to Multi Level Marketing or MLM. I recognized that if I applied myself to my MLM opportunity as much as I had done in my corporate job we could be financially free within 5 to 10 years. I decided to resign from my job and devoted myself fully to MLM.
I did everything my upline suggested. And in my second year was recognised as the companies top recruiter in the whole of Europe.
Top Recruiter in Europe!
I carried on for the next couple of years but things slowed right down. I remember coming across a report on the MLM industry which was pretty radical but at the time dismissing it and continuing to do the same things that I had done for years. About a year later I was sent the same report by a friend. This time it was different, I suppose “The teacher appears when the student is ready”. Now I could see the situation more clearly and decided to embrace the up to date methods in order to build my business. Things have never been better and I am so excited about what the future holds for us. We recently moved to England and are all loving it. I have made the transition from working ‘from’ home to truly working ‘at’ home. I hope that I can share some of my experiences with you.
To your success
Grant Thomson
